What a lovely surprise! Thanks for the awards, you’ve absolutely made my day. I’ve been a bit of out the loop with my lovely wordpress bloggers lately – still recovering from my international move – but I am very glad I found you all. I have to say as well, I love all the different posts about thanksgiving and other various holidays, because we have a pretty different set of public holidays in Australia. I feel get a much better food education because of it. So keep it coming! The pancakes looks amazing, I just asked my boyfriend if we should have them tomorrow for our day off and got a very loud: YES!

Autumn always reminds me of school too..
I have always wondered how teachers manage to renew their enthusiasm year after year..how they manage to give so much, love so much and do so much..
Hats off to you for that :)
I love the cookies and love the fact that there isn’t a ton on butter in them
I have been craving cookies for some time..I think I need to bake these soon

ceciliagSeptember 29, 2011 - 9:51 am

I didn’t realise you were a teacher Smidge, so was I.. love these cookies and your shots! c

Just A SmidgenSeptember 29, 2011 - 10:00 am

ColleenOctober 1, 2011 - 5:04 pm

These look super yummy; I especially love the craisins inside!
It’s been a while since I’ve made cookies… I’m feeling inspired to make some now!

Just A SmidgenOctober 2, 2011 - 7:43 pm

So funny, I just noticed the low butter content. I had to double check, but yes, this is the correct recipe:) I know I loved teaching but I don’t know how some teachers can keep going after so many years. I get tired just thinking about it:)

Just A SmidgenOctober 2, 2011 - 7:43 pm

Thanks Colleen:)

“Google It”: Oven Roasted Heirloom Tomato and Red Pepper Soup with Grown-Up Grilled Cheese

You’ve gotta love Google. Have you ever wanted to learn how to take better food photos… Or wondered who’s teaching the next bike class at your gym? Perhaps you needed driving directions to a nearby town, Or lost the phone number for a favorite restaurant?

Don’t you just love the way computers think! My other source of similar entertainment is the auto-correct feature offering so many wild and woolly alternative words (especially for proper names), phrases and forms of punctuation to “improve” my writing. Oh, and Google Voice transcriptions of voice messages. Sometimes incredibly hilarious, but almost always tough to decipher without actually listening to the recorded version.

Your sandwich brings back VERY fond memories of my first time in England, where the first stop was with a dear family whose de rigeur evening treat was cheese-and-chutney sandwiches (also homemade apple chutney, and my introduction to un-dyed aged white cheddar. Ahhhhhh!

Thank you.

Aimee@clevermuffinSeptember 25, 2011 - 8:30 pm

“old fashioned smacking”?? I’m tempted just to google that to see if I can then get back to your blog. It is funny looking at search terms. This looks delicious, love the ‘grown up grilled cheese’.

The Southern LadySeptember 27, 2011 - 5:21 am

You would not believe some of my search terms. There is one I get almost every day that totally cracks me up, but not suitable to print here. They must use the term to get to my blog daily. This recipe looks so good and yes, I use google a lot, too.

Just A SmidgenSeptember 27, 2011 - 10:12 am

Remember voice recognition on the phone for the directory… something was always wrong with my voice and it couldn’t understand me. I guess thank goodness for google now:)

Just A SmidgenSeptember 27, 2011 - 10:13 am

It took me a while, but finally figured out it was a blog for Old Fashioned cake and I referred to flip-flops “smacking”… go figure! The person who wanted to an excuse to spank their kid went to the wrong blog! Hahaha!

Just A SmidgenSeptember 27, 2011 - 10:14 am

Hilarious… now I’m curious to know what it is! Have an awesome day!

All That I'm EatingSeptember 28, 2011 - 9:44 am

Some of those words are so funny. I like looking at mine but I have to say none are quite as impressive as yours!
I’ve got a garden full of tomatoes that would be more than happy to be made into this soup.

kathryningridSeptember 28, 2011 - 9:50 am

What a classic!

Tailgate Turkey-Stuffing Sliders

Where do all good recipes come from? Well, Virginia, maybe there is a recipe fairy. I can always rely on the tried-and-true cards from Gran’s recipe box or my mom’s meals that I remember from childhood. As you can imagine, (stationery hoarder) I also have scads of cookbooks and food magazines that are well-thumbed through…

I have no idea what a tailgate party is :) but these look amazing! What a great idea to make these mini versions…delicious!

Just A SmidgenSeptember 20, 2011 - 12:38 pm

Wow that was quick:) A tailgate party is the party before a football game. Thanks!

fiftytwotreatsSeptember 20, 2011 - 1:13 pm

I can’t wait to try these, I love thanksgiving sandwiches. (If you ever find yourself on Nantucket in MA, you HAVE to go to Provisions and get their thanksgiving sandwich. It’s AMAZING)

Just A SmidgenSeptember 20, 2011 - 3:40 pm

Sigh… in a few years I’ll be travelling more:) I will add this to my bucket list!

Nate’s Perfect Pantry Procrastination

“You should see Nate’s pantry,” I said over coffee and cereal one morning. “Who’s Nate?” my daughter asked. “Oh, Nate Berkus… you know, on the television show,” I replied. “Hahaha, oh, mom, you sound like he’s one of your best friends!” It was clearly time to turn off the television…but just thinking about two months…

Wow….wanna do mine :)

Just A SmidgenSeptember 19, 2011 - 6:12 am

Actually… sure:)

mmarnallSeptember 19, 2011 - 6:33 am

This looks great! I save all of my glass jars from food and mason jars for the same purpose. I also use some of them for organizing things in the bathroom cabinets. You should look in to Krylon’s looking glass spray, it can give your glass a mirror like look or the old mercury glass look, depending on how generously you apply.

Just A SmidgenSeptember 19, 2011 - 6:57 am

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have a look at this. It would be a cool finish!

Danelle VickersSeptember 19, 2011 - 6:07 pm

That looks awesome! You’ve inspired me! Of course…I have had a glass of wine. Inspiration will likely be gone by tomorrow when I remember I have 4 kids and too much to do already!

Just A SmidgenSeptember 19, 2011 - 9:37 pm

Hahaha, yes wine can be inspiring all on its’ own! 4 kids and a pantry…it would be almost impossible for it to organized anyway:)

Aimee@clevermuffinSeptember 20, 2011 - 3:12 am

This is very enviable – more than anything I envy how big your pantry is! I have real storage issues and am going to take another bloggers suggestion soon of stacking all my cans up against a wall. I do love having an organised pantry though.

Wine And Food MusingsOctober 4, 2011 - 10:02 am

Great now you’ve given me this idea too and I’ll have to go organize my pantry so I can compete with yours. How beautifully organized and labeled. I love that. Great blog too! I can’t wait to read more from you.
