treat yourself to these velvety Valentine sweetheart bars of rose scented glycerin soap
delicately tinted and scented
before you go out for Valentine’s Day..
or maybe you’ll just stay in

glycerin is a natural humectant that helps draw moisture into your skin..
so bring a wee Sweetheart Rose Petal Soap into the tub with you
and
inhale its’ gentle blossoming fragrance..
while crimson rose petals float languidly around you.

Sweetheart Rose Petal Soaps
Supplies
4 oz glycerine soap base
8-10 drops essential rose oil
2 drops red food coloring
dried organic rose petals, crushed
{ or dried edible flowers, pansies would be pretty }
2 cup Pyrex measuring cup
plastic spoon
3-4 heart-shaped silicone cups
microwave
Directions
Prepare your silicone moulds by placing a teaspoon or so of crushed rose petals in each.
Place the 4 oz glycerine soap in the measuring cup (the two smaller blocks are 2 oz each.)
Heat in your microwave on high for 30 seconds. Then repeat for 10 second intervals. Check and stir each time and stop when soap has become liquid. It only takes 2-3 10 seconds intervals usually.
The soap is extremely hot, so carefully remove from the microwave. Stir in 8-10 drops of rose essential oil (to preference) and 2 drops red food coloring, add more until desired color is reached (I only used 2).
Carefully pour into 3-4 moulds, depending on the thickness of soap desired and the size of your moulds. Leave to set, about 10 minutes or until completely cooled.
*I found tiny bubbles formed in my soap, I think I would gently stir before pouring to remove these.
Pop out of the moulds and head for your tub. xo

Love your photos. What editing program do you use? I love how you superimpose words, etc on the photos. I am in the market and having trouble choosing.
I use Picmonkey.. it’s free or you can upgrade to have more selection. I find it quick and easy to get started. I’m just in an Adobe Photoshop class so I’ll let you know how that goes:) xx
Please do! The hubby can get a discount on it as a student but i want to know how it works/if it is any good before I spend the $.
We are offered a discount while we’re in the class. I think it is not “upgradable” though. Since it’s a student version, it is affordable but you can’t get any of the newer version upgrades when they come out. So that makes it a tough decision. It’s pretty advanced, but I think it can do so much more in the end. I’m hoping to draw and scan and then work with my own graphics eventually. I have found Picmonkey a really quick way to do fun stuff for free. They have filters, text, etc. that are quick to learn and use. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I had no idea this is how you make soap! I am completely in love with the scent of rose. I keep rose oil in my closet and spritz my clothes with it. 🙂 And often spritz myself. LOL! Pinning and sharing!! So fun Smidge!

How lovely! I can see making little gifts for friends and family with your “recipe.”. Tell me, Smidge are the glycerin cubes found in most larger craft stores or is it easier to purchase online? Unless I’m missing something, this looks fairly easy for a novice crafter. 🙂
I found them at our “big box” Michael’s store. I just saw Martha made them with a different technique.. And she stamped xo in them.. Too cute! She also said to spray with alcohol to eliminate bubbles. But I wonder if stirring would work just as well..
I love them and I sear when I’m looking at the pictures I can smell roses. 🙂 They look relatively simple to make, I think even I could do it!
Meant to say “swear” of course. 😉
The great thing is that they can be as light or as strongly scented.. I know some people like a softer fragrance:) xx

I’ve got a collection of dried roses from prior bouquets…could I use some of them? This is great! xx
I’ll be making a change to the supplies list… roses should be organic, no need to have pesticides joining you in the tub:) Maybe call your florist to find out. If not, try finding edible flowers in a whole food market and let those dry.. pansies would be so pretty.. even a whole one xx
