Freshwater Seashell Wreath

The lure of the ocean has been calling me these past few weeks. There is something magical about the ocean waves sequestered in seashells. These little shell wreaths can be found on so many websites and Pinterest boards and, like all the crafts I try, looked simple and fast enough to make. It was. Here…

The lure of the ocean is always calling to me, and someday I will heed that call on a permanent basis. Meanwhile, I keep shells in places where I can always see them to remind me of the ocean and her siren song. Love you craft wreath…so pretty and so evocative of spring and renewal.

I have an aging doggy too. It’s so sad how they age so quickly. She needs two knee replacements, is recovering from breast cancer and a few weeks ago I noticed she’s lost her hearing. The vet doesn’t think she’d survive the knee surgery so she walks in constant pain. It’s so sad. Enjoy your break and I’ll look forward to your return xx

I was watching a programme on the Bronte sisters last night which showed the South Yorkshire Moors where they lived and over which they loved to wander. There was a huge reservoir high up in the hills, which allowed them to escape the smoke of the mills, and that poem makes me think that it was written there.

Smidge this is such a beautiful idea and I have so many shells just waiting to be picked up on the beach here where we live – now just to get there on a warm day.

Gosh, what a coincidence! I have spent a lot of time thinking about fake flowers recently. I used to think they were not a good idea but they seem to have taken over my place by stealth, I even added some more over Easter. They have as you say got better over the year. I love the dog’s pillow.

We don’t have that magazine here but we do have one called, ‘House & Garden’. Your faux flowers look very real from my side of the screen. I love your new doggy upgrade and your little pooch looks very happy with the renovation xx

You’ve such a talent for decorating, Barb, and because of it, you’ve created a warm home. Your day bed could not look more inviting and the faux flowers made a beautiful bouquet. Why, even your pupster benefits! This was a lovely post, Barb.

Oh this is heavenly. My office is so far from flowers and beauty. But I am truly inspired. I have a LOT of editing to accomplish but one positive step in all that I’m learning is trusting that I will make it happen and not beat myself up if it takes a little while- like the rest of the year!
Happy happy spring Smidge xx wendy

I really like how you used the cover of the magazine/book to add some flower power — how smart to have something adding beauty just sitting there and also available to browse more beauty inside its pages. Smart. And beautiful. Thank you for the reminder to begin spring in our homes before nature has a chance to come into full bloom. :)

Love love love this!!! Your flower arrangements are amazing! I thought that they were real! The combinations you chose are very pretty. Seriously, please come over and decorate my house (I sound like a broken record, don’t I?) I’ll send you home with tons of food :) And I can totally relate to you about ‘over doing it.’ It’s the same thing with cooking. When I got out of culinary school, I thought that adding a ton of cool/weird ingredients to my dishes was the ‘thing’ to do. Then when I finally found my style I realized that less is more. Your style is beautiful :) Ok, longest comment ever… xx Em

Smidge – I don’t think you mentioned, how wide is the jute garland you used?

Barbara Bamber | justasmidgenMarch 8, 2013 - 10:10 am

Sorry! The ribbon is 5 1/2″ or 14 cm wide.. I’ll amend the instructions:) xx

spreeMarch 8, 2013 - 10:12 am

Thank you! One last question (I think) where did you find it? I’ve looked on Amazon and at local craft store and 4″ width seems to be the widest I can find…so far. Thanks love!

Barbara Bamber | justasmidgenMarch 8, 2013 - 10:16 am

I would try four inch but maybe buy an extra roll so you can return it if you don’t need it? I bought mine at Michael’s. I did have to phone each store and found one in the north east that had some in stock:) I hope you find some in your area. Do you have a Michaels?

I just love the atmosphere you created! Something about that light blue candle just makes me HAPPY.

I love the spruced up boxwood wreath, too. We used to have a row of boxwoods on our front walkway when I was growing up, but they all came down with something and died. Still, whenever I see a boxwood anything, it makes me smile.
