Happy Valentine’s Day Smidge! I love lemon curd, I mean, love, love, love lemon curd! I have no doubt I could eat that entire jar. Delicious! And beautiful as always. :)

JoannaFebruary 14, 2012 - 8:22 am

Am going to carry off your recipe to the kitchen and make these right away. Press P for Print xx

Gretchen O'DonnellFebruary 14, 2012 - 8:33 am

I LOVE lemon curd!!! Love it. I make pound cake and dollop lemon curd on it, topped with fresh blueberries. (I love lemon and blueberries together). These have got to be some of the most beautiful cookies I’ve ever seen – such wonderful pictures! Drooling…

spreeFebruary 14, 2012 - 8:52 am

Smidge, I can’t open the vides clips right now, but I’ll come back to them as soon as I can…but let me just say something about what I CAN…I cannot imagine a cookie that I’d like (love) more than this! I love Ina’s lemon curd! It’s the best I’ve ever tried. And the little crunch, the little sweet, the delicious tart all popping into the mouth at once? Fantastic!! Can there possibly be a more Adore-able cookie? I suppose it’s possible, but it’s highly unlikely! Thank you too for the words of love and kindness you speak! Xoxo Spree

Happy Valentine’s Day! Your lemon curd recipe sounds delicious and, yes, I’d triple the quantities, too. One can never have too much lemon curd in the house. And your linzer cookies are definitely a good way to use up any surplus curd one might have languishing about in the fridge. :)

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:04 am

Thanks, Kristy… I’ve got a lot now, so on the web looking for new ways to eat it (other than a spoon:)

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:04 am

Joanna, did the changes I make help you? I think the “triple” amounts in brackets were confusing.

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:05 am

Pound cake!! I forgot about that one! Ok, I think Ina has one of those recipes as well, this could be trouble… Thanks, Gretchen and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:07 am

Oh, Spree… you must be busy baking up a storm in your kitchen:) Thanks for your cookie-love… I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day even if your hubby isn’t home? xoxo Smidge

You really do live each day with such grace and love, Barbara, and these beautiful little cookies are just another example of the care you take and give in every aspect of your life. I’m going to have to make some more curd so I can try my hand at these. Happy Valentine’s day!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:33 am

Thanks so much, Sibella.. I think so many get caught up in the Hallmark Valentine’s Day they forget the meaning the rest of the year.. sorta like Christmas, I guess:) Have a wonderful day!! xo Smidge

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:34 am

I sure try, but I definitely have my moments (lol). Thanks so much for your kind words today:) xo Smidge

promenadeplantingsFebruary 14, 2012 - 10:38 am

So much to read, and look at and linger on. I’ve never heard of Linzer cookies before, but with lemon curd in I know I want some. And I love your words about changing the tone of your voice, I’ve always maintained you can say the same thing in a miriad of ways, just by changing your tone. Thank you :)

frugalfeedingFebruary 14, 2012 - 10:44 am

Smidgen, they are so pretty! Desperately pretty. Ho come I have only just subscribed to your blog? I should be shot!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 10:59 am

spicegirlflaFebruary 14, 2012 - 12:12 pm

Beautiful and thought-provoking post, Smidge. And the cookies are beautiful! :)

niasunsetFebruary 14, 2012 - 2:35 pm

Happy Valentine’s day, dear Barbara! I loved these lovely delicious hearts… But but your photographs they are almost romance of love… I loved them too. Thank you, dear Barbara, with my love, nia

thekalechroniclesFebruary 14, 2012 - 3:30 pm

How clever that the recipe uses an entire pound of butter, one-quarter in the curd and the rest in the cookies. How beautiful your cookies are — much more attractive to me than frosted hearts. And Sophia’s video was precious, especially when she says in an exasperated tone,”Be kind!” and then repeats more quietly “Be kind.” I, for one, need kindness practice.

susielindauFebruary 14, 2012 - 3:51 pm

It makes me want to rush out to buy a bag of lemons! YUM! I will definitely try this. Happy Valentine’s Day!

hotlyspicedFebruary 14, 2012 - 4:18 pm

That little Sophia is gorgeous – as are your cookies! Letting someone in in the traffic – hmmm, that’s a hard one! And yes, you can never have enough lemon curd – one of my favourite things to make – it has so many uses.

Peach Farm StudioFebruary 14, 2012 - 5:21 pm

Love, love, love lemon curd on cookies, scones and right off the spoon!

ceciliagFebruary 14, 2012 - 5:52 pm

Beautiful words Smidge and the lemon curd looks out of this world. How is your son doing? Healing well with mom’s cooking? Take Care, BAM

JoanneFebruary 14, 2012 - 7:40 pm

Oh, Sharon, isn’t she just a sweetie?! I could stop smiling when I watched this for the first time! I know I need to remind myself to stay calm and be kind.. it’s sometimes just such a crazy busy world, isn’t it? And about the sugar… well, let’s blame the Barefoot Contessa for that, shall we? xo Smidge

saffronandhoneyFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:50 pm

Oh yes, we’ve been eating it all week already, and I’m handing off a couple of jars to friends tomorrow so I don’t eat it all:).

I had doubts about the quick recipe at first, but after trying it a few times – it really works! Delicious.

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 9:55 pm

That’s how I ended up making these.. a beautiful huge box at Costco, of all places! How could I resist! Happy Day to you!!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 14, 2012 - 10:04 pm

I’ve been working on the feeding part;) He’s doing so much better, but I think he is quite frustrated not being able to exercise or play hockey. They had them on such a physical schedule, it’s hard for him to just sit around… Thanks so much for asking!! xo Happy Valentine’s Day BAM!!

Purely.. KayFebruary 15, 2012 - 4:23 pm

Wow.. each time I visit you.. you always outdo yourself Ms. Barbara :) . These cookies look so yummy and just look at that lemon curd.. I love it. My mother now wants to make these cookies and who am I to stop her LOL. I can’t wait to taste them :)

Eva TaylorFebruary 15, 2012 - 4:50 pm

What wonderful little cookies, Barbara, lemon curd is one of my absolute fav’s. Have you heard of peopleforthegood.ca? It’s a movement in Canada basically of what you were writing about above…holding the door open for someone, telling someone they look great today, paying it forward etc. Society seems to have lost simple common decency and we need a bit of a kick to remind us how to act human.

Just A SmidgenFebruary 15, 2012 - 5:56 pm

Haha, no, I wouldn’t get in her way, either! I hope you like them as much as my family and friends did!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 15, 2012 - 6:03 pm

I hadn’t heard of that.. it’s the perfect website for me to go and take a look around!! Thanks for the tip!! xo Smidge

The HookFebruary 16, 2012 - 8:57 am

Sunkissed? I love that term!
Great post!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 16, 2012 - 9:24 am

Thank you.. usually sunkissed makes me think of oranges, but these were so sunshiny in color…

filingawaycupcakesFebruary 16, 2012 - 3:53 pm

Your pics and blog are so pretty! I don’t know how you did your striped background, but it is great!

Just A SmidgenFebruary 16, 2012 - 6:25 pm

You are so very kind.. it took quite a bit of work.. but I enjoy this sort of thing:)

kathryningridFebruary 16, 2012 - 9:32 pm

I am so with our peachy friend. Lemony heaven!!! And the usual beauty of presentation and lyrical poetry of grace and generosity. A very sizable Smidgen of sweetness.
xoxoxo

Carolyn ChanFebruary 16, 2012 - 9:55 pm

Wise words of just being considerate and kind. Wish there were more people out there that subscribe to that way of living. Hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day !

[...] Just a Smidgeon.  Barbara’s work is quite simply beautiful. Her images are always so peaceful and full of such (.. what is the word.) Thought, care, passion, amazing attention to detail. She builds her images.  The results are feminine, rich and startling.  A poet, a cellist and a very good cook.  I think she must live in a beautiful house. A house I would like to visit.  [...]

MichelleFebruary 18, 2012 - 6:24 am
