From the hot Amazon Rainforests of Brazil..
icy cold and creamy Acai Bowls have finally made it to the wintery flats of the Canadian prairies!
♥
After Italy I have a real passion for gelato, but we all know that too much gelato isn’t healthy!
My daughter introduced me to the amazing Acai Berry this past week.
♥
Our local market Blush Lane carries Sambazon Unsweetened Smoothie Packs, each contains four single servings of
Pure Acai Berry
♥
Acai Berries { and Purée } are an antioxident, they’re filled with Omega 3, organic and contain
GMO-Free ingredients sustainably sourced in the Brazilian Amazon.
It’s color is a deep, rich reddish-brown.. an Indian Red or Burnt Sienna shade.

Best of all, these Acai Bowls
{ they’re called Bowls once the recipe is made }
are topped with fresh berries, coconut, granola and pretty much anything you’d like!
♥
Wouldn’t you love a Bowl for breakfast or brunch?
These are also great for smoothies but we used them to make Breakfast Bowls for ourselves.
The taste and texture is as thick, creamy and decadent as frozen yogurt but Acai is Vegan, Raw and a Superfood!
♥
We made ours in a food processor, it’s easier to grind up the frozen purée and whip the ingredients ’til smooth but thick in texture. We found our blender wasn’t up to the task.
If you have a Vitamix, you’ll be good to go!
- 1 packet Sambazon Unsweetened Smoothie Pack
- 1 banana
- 1/8 cup coconut water
- 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
- fresh berries
- Run the freezer pack under hot water briefly then slide it out into the food processor. Add the banana, coconut water and blueberries. Put the lid on and blend, pulsing and running the processor until the mixture is thick, as thick as gelato or slightly softened ice cream.
- Pour into a large bowl, top with berries.
Some larger cities { like Anchorage, Alaska } have shops that sell a variety of Acai Bowls.
It’s my new favorite.. dessert for breakfast!
Acai berries are incredible, I love them! Glad to welcome you onto the train 😀
I will take 10 bowls thanks for 10 days of breakfast – then I shall be back 😛
Great recipe!
Cheers

You kids know about all these things before we do;) Glad you like ’em CCU!
Now you are talking! 😉 When I was growing up acai was very hard to find in Sao Paulo, being a fruit from the North of Brazil. My Dad was born in a state up North, so he was crazy for acai. I remember the rare occasions in which we could get some, oh the smile on his face!
A little tip – lots of English speaking people pronounce the word wrong – make sure the final ‘i’ is the strong syllable – with a sound of “e” – even folks at the FoodTV Network are butchering the word. Makes me shiver… 😉
I knew you’d recognize this berry:) I wondered about pronunciation, so it’s ah-sigh-ee or eh?? With empasis on the “sigh”?? Did they have these bowls then too? I think they’re served along the beaches and boardwalks today. They’re big in Hawaii as well.
Sounds delightful and mixed with coconut water. Health in a bowl for sure. I have not tried this yet but see it all the time in the health food store I visit. I will have to purchase some on my next visit and give your recipe a try.
It really tastes so good, Bam, nice to be finding new recipes that are good for us:)xx
Interesting. I’m going to look for acai berries. Thanks Barbara!
This sounds delicious Smidge! I was recently introduced to acai as well. It’s so good for us too. I’m going to have to keep my eyes open for the smoothie mix. The kids are always up for smoothies too. 🙂
I haven’t used these in smoothies yet.. but I know they’ll be yummy:)
Mmmm…this looks soo good! I’ve been on a very clean, healthy eating regime lately. I also do the chia pudding you posted the other day. I have to look for this acai smoothie…I do purchase the drink so maybe I can just whip it up for a smoothie with some fruit. Looks soo amazingly healthy and good!!
We just got our Vitamix back from long-term storage. I see an opportunity here 🙂
I have yet to try acai berries! Gotta do it, and soon. This is such a pretty dish. Almost too pretty to eat — but you know I would! Thanks for this.
I’ve seen the acai berries but never tried them. You certainly make them sound (and look) fantastic. How do you manage to make everything look so beautiful? You have such an eye for presentation and perfect lighting.
As creamy and decadent as frozen yogurt AND healthy? You are an amazing woman!
Dear Barbara,
This bowl of healthy goodness looks absolutely brilliant! Love your food styling and photography.
That’s my favorite breakfast!! Eat it 3-4 times a week but some days I add granola with flax seeds! 🙂 Love this one!!
These look incredible, Smidge! I have had acai berries but I don’t know about these smoothie packs. I’ll have to see what I can find in our stores. I think this is something I’d enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner, quite frankly! 🙂

Oh, how fresh and delicious.
What a simple yet nutritious bowl of fruity goodness Barbara, you’ve really created a beautiful bowl. I bought dried acai berries and they must have been stale because they were awful, even the squirrels won’t have them so now I’m on the look out for some good ones and once I find them I’ll be right back here to check out your recipe.
I don’t think I’d try this with fresh berries, this is made from a frozen puree that gives it the “ice cream” texture. I’d love to see some of those acai though, it would be interesting to taste them:)
Bursting with berry goodness !!
Add me to the list that has yet to try acai berries, Barb. I’ll keep my open for the smoothie packs. Your acai bowls sound terrific and these packs will make the upcoming berry season fantastic!
