Sometimes you crave a little something sweet..
{ made with ingredients you have on hand }
but you don’t want the whole pie.
{ Perhaps you do, but tch tch you still have fitness goals }
Perhaps I could entice you with these Waffle Hand Pies?
{ Would you like Apple Pie or Rhubarb Strawberry? }
With a wee shower of cinnamon sprinkles..
and a white wooden tray things appear so much fussier than they really are.
{ candles … flowers }
Just heat up your waffle iron or griddle..
dollop the center with pie filling,
{ oohhh maybe Nutella }
brush the griddle lightly with butter..
press and wait..
expect some of the pie filling to bubble over the sides,
but never you mind!
You can let it cool and smear it up with your finger and have a little taste.
Just pop it out
&
** sprinkle **
Perhaps add a scoop of local ice cream like this lovely..
♥
{ Lemon Curd Wild Raspberry }
As my Grandpa used to say:
{ an apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze }
I loved these without the cheese and without the ice cream and I sure hope you do too. Now where did I put that jar of Nutella…
- 1 Package 7" Tortilla
- 1 tin apple pie filling (or any fruit pie filling)
- cinnamon
- granulated sugar
- melted butter
- griddle or panini maker or skillet
- Preheat your waffle iron.
- I used 10" inch tortillas so precut them to fit the size of my waffle iron.
- Measure about 1 tbsp of cinnamon into a small bowl. Stir in enough sugar to make a nice cinnamon sugar sprinkle for your topping.
- Spoon and spread a small amount of apple pie filling in the center of one tortilla. Make sure you don't spread it all the way to the outside edge.
- Lay another tortilla on top.
- Lightly brush both sides with butter. Lightly brush the waffle iron with butter and place the stacked tortillas on. Press down the lid firmly, holding it occasionally to press the pieces together as they bake. Some filling will come out the sides of your waffle iron as the filling heats up.
- Bake for about 5-6 minutes or until the tortilla is lightly browned. Remove, brush again lightly with butter and sprinkle with the sugar cinnamon mixture.
- Serve warm with ice cream.
- Makes as many as you wish, try different pie fillings like Rhubarb Strawberry or even Nutella.
- This makes a thin layer of pie filling, if you wanted more, don't press down and work to have less of a design on the top, this would keep more of your filling inside.
What a brilliant idea! I love this. It would definitely fulfill a sweet craving, and a pie craving without all the work. The white tray is a beautiful touch! Very summery.
what a lovely idea for a quick snack. love how it looks too – very beautiful. I think the rhubarb and strawberry filling one would be very delicious!
I really need to get myself a waffle iron, now! Sooo, Smidge, where can I find that awesomely cute waffle iron you used to make these heart shaped petal hand-pies??? 🙂
Your photos are stunning. And these pies are too!!! I can see children enjoying them as much as adults!!! Such a pretty blog.
