The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

so often we seek

joy

and merely endure disappointment-

it is an interesting idea to shift instead to the welcoming

of all life experiences..

“God bless the broken  road”

img_9366-edmy home

is my

“guest house”

where i  can  celebrate life and welcome

those i choose to bring into my

life

“making a plan”

for my home and my life-

“I want it the way I want it”

img_9381-edi love having my family for

Christmas Eve and brunch

and this year wanted to

add more warmth in

my tablescape

img_9375-edi  fell in love  with some fur placemats at

Pottery Barn and couldn’t

resist when they showed up  in

white

this  tablescape was made very affordably:

Faux fur placements and reindeer from Pottery Barn, gold branches from Golden Acres garden center last year, the silver cutlery was found at Honey B’s vintage shop years ago, JOY letters were from Chapters/Indigo last year, fur throws on chairs are from COSTCO this year, everything else was collected from HomeSense over the years.

i love and find

refuge in being

creative

and am so excited to  have been asked to publish an article for

Somerset Life Magazine

{ this is  the same pubisher as my feature in Artful Living a few years ago }

hoping that you will find

joy

as you prepare for  this

Christmas

Love,

Smidge
