Sweet Honey Raspberry Lip Balm

Serves: 9-11 small pots of balm
Ingredients
  • 10 fresh raspberries
  • 1/4 cup beeswax
  • 1/8 cup coconut oil
  • 1/8 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 tsp sweet almond oil (for skin care)
  • 2 tsp acacia honey
  • 1/8 - 1/4 tsp raspberry candy flavoring*
  • 10-12 small plastic containers with lids removed*
Instructions
  1. Put the raspberries in a one cup pyrex glass and add a tiny splash of water. Microwave on high for 20-25 seconds. Remove and strain by pressing the raspberries through a fine sieve. Set aside the raspberry juice and discard the pulp.
  2. Cut the edge of a beeswax block off into slivers using a sharp, heavy knife. It is easier to slice thinner slivers. Continue until you have 1/4 cup. In a 2 cup pyrex measuring cup or a small pot, combine the beeswax slivers, coconut oil, shea butter, sweet almond oil, and honey. Microwave for 20 seconds, repeating and stirring until everything is melted together. I had a plastic spoon that I kept in the measuring cup so that I could easily stir and have less mess. If you are using a pot, put over low heat and stir continuously until melted.
  3. Stir in the raspberry juice and raspberry candy flavoring. Using a vigorous, whisking motion, blend the ingredients together the best you can without getting the mixture up the sides of the cup. The raspberry juice tends to separate from the rest of the liquid, but as it begins cooling it will blend better. Do not allow it to cool too much as the balm will set and stick to the sides of the measuring cup and become difficult to pour.
  4. Pour the balm into each plastic container, set aside to cool and firm. When cool, screw the lids on and use immediately, setting extras aside in the fridge for use later.

*Most ingredients were found at our local whole foods or community health natural foods grocery stores. The cups and candy flavoring were found at Michael's, our local hobby store.
