“Where did she go..”
I’ve been on a wee escape.. to the land of Palm Trees
Hiking through parched brush and scraggy rock formations..
The land barely interrupted by tiny signs of an emerging spring..
I’m told it’ll be a botanical wonder in only a few weeks.
We found the inevitable oasis.. its restorative spring hidden deep..
It seems that even here, spring still resides only in the heart, the trill of a wee bird and the scorching heat of the sun..
and in the joyful burst of color from a few bedding plants that thrive with tender watering..
Just as the spring in your heart can be quenched by the smile of a dear friend after a prolonged absence..
Smidge will be back in the kitchen soon.. until then I’ll leave you with a thought..
Enjoy the sunshine and the catch up! x
Thank you for taking us on the journey and reminders of warm sun 🙂
Have a wonderful time, Barb! It looks absolutely glorious.. xx
Relax and enjoy 🙂
Have a beautiful holiday and enjoy the sun and scenery. Take care, BAM
The sunshine and gorgeous nature really agrees with you. Such beautiful scenes; thank you!
What a beautiful photogenic post my friend, so many wonderful looking plants!
Cheers

Good to escape from the kitchen now and then, Smidge. Battery recharge. I could certainly feel the heat!
Although you are a world away from here we are connected through a shared love of…..Starbucks!
Beautiful photos. Ahhh…the sunshine and warm weather. I long for it! ~ April
Enjoy all the gorgeousness! xox
What a way to enjoy winter! Thanks for sharing your wonderful and warm excursion with us.
See you in the kitchen. Enjoy your time away.
It is nice to take a break, especially if it involves warmth and friendship.
Loved the post, and the final quote says it all!
You look beautiful as usual, and happiness flows off the photo, which is the way it should be… ENJOY!
It’s not warm here,Barb, but for lthe time I was looking at your pics, I felt the sunshine. Hoping you had a great time.
Paul
Really nice photos. I wouldn’t worry about missing the full bloom, looks like you still saw some great scenery.
While the anticipation of spring keeps our hearts looking forward, a wee escape can help our hearts settle into now. Glad you got to get away. 🙂
My dear, I hope you’re not just up the street and not saying hello! LOL! Those landscapes look mighty familiar. 🙂 Enjoy warmth, sunshine and the chance to recharge! oxo
Where is that? Seems very rugged. See you back in the kitchen soon.
Palm Springs.. on the Art Knapp Trail:)
You warmed my heart as well dear friend, and never again shall there be such a prolonged absence.
Never again:) xx
Gorgeous! All of it. I hope you’re enjoying yourself!
Beautiful pictures Smidge! Looked like such a wonderful vacation. I love those kinds of vacations, hiking, nature, and of course good food and good friends. 🙂
I’m not surprised.. I think we’re a bit alike that way:)
Looks like a very special place. 🙂
Looks like you’ve been having a wonderful time! Enjoy time off – it’s so important. Great pictures!
How lovely to have a weekend away. You must have really enjoyed getting away from the constant snow, ice, rain and grey, grey days. What a contrast. And how wonderful to spend time with a special friend – great image of the two of you xx

So glad you were able to get away, Barb. I see you picked the perfect spot to get some respite from Winter — at a dear friend’s side. 🙂
Seems it was a great time… Thank you, have a nice day, love, nia
Beautiful post and fabulous photos!
Absolutely beautiful.
A wonderful getaway! I could practically feel the sun …
Gorgeous photos, have a wonderful time. thanks for taking me along.
What a great place to hike around and enjoy nature. Looks like you’re enjoying yourself. Have fun!
I visited the area a few years ago. Great shots! Did you take the aerial tram? Joshua Tree was amazing.
Oh, I wish I’d known about the aerial tram! And my husband was supposed to get to Joshua Tree, but they never did. I guess I’ll just have to get back there soon:D
Beautiful. I feel the warmth I see hear. x
Outstanding photos, just what we needed with another winter storm heading our way
I hope it doesn’t hit you too hard!! Stay warm! xx
Wow, everything is beautiful! Lovely photos! You deserve to be a little side tracked. Love the quote.., very true!
Love getaways like that – you look gorgeous as ever, Smidge ! As does your friend !
Oh! I think you and GGP must have crossed mid-air somewhere. He’s there now, but heading home soon. This is the sort of getaway that gets into our bones when they’re feeling especially chilled and cranky, as they do this time of year. Sun on bare arms, what a delicious remedy! Happy knowing you connected with a long-time friend – yet another delicious remedy! Hoping this time away has done you such good Smidge. We’ll see you back in the kitchen soon! xxoo
What an adventure, looks a bit hot and dry to me … glad you made it back – and you don’t have to go into the kitchen straight away. Great gallery of photos. Roses blooming .. fantastic.
So happy you got away with a good friend. What a lovely place to be restored. That quote by Thoreau…isn’t that the truth?!
I love how that flowering cactus (in the photo right above your sentence about finding the inevitable oasis) looks like it could be an anemone underwater in a coral reef. How neat is that?!
