I love to doodle.. I have a chalkboard for doodling at the lake.
But I was looking for an alternative that was a little more contemporary for our home here in the city.
Like most of my DIY projects, this one is easy..
Something I could prop up in our kitchen that would add a little cheer to the day.. or display important messages..
{ oops.. I think it’s 5 more days now.. }
It could be a place to scribble items for a grocery list.. mine is small, but I have plans for a larger, wall-hung frame..
This is so quick and easy to make and it doesn’t have the dust that goes along with a chalkboard.
Signs of Spring Dry Erase Message Board DIY
Materials
1 photo frame, any size
Scrapbooking paper, variety
{ or a big sheet of white or colored poster paper if your frame is really large }
1 packet Expo Bright Sticks WET ERASE Markers
Directions
Take apart your frame, carefully remove the paper lining and use this to trace and cut out the background scrapbook paper you’d like to use.
Place the scrapbook paper next to the glass, then put back the paper and the mat (I’d keep it in case you want to turn this sign back into a photo frame).
Replace the cardboard backing onto the frame.
Wipe and dry thoroughly with a damp cloth until the surface is shiny and squeaky clean.
Pump and shake the Wet Erase Markers as directed on the package. Then draw to your heart’s content.
When you’re ready to change the message, just wipe away with a damp cloth.
ps I’ve been hard at work switching my recipe lists (in the menu bar) to a photo gallery format (I did the same for DIY, Poems and Videos) so it’s quicker to scan and see the recipe you’re looking for.. (now, that definitely wasn’t a fast DIY for me, lol, but so worth it!)
pps My anenome cupcakes were featured over at cupcakesandcrinoline .. and at At The Picket Fence! Go take a peak.. there’s so many other cute Easter ideas for you and still time enough to try them before the “big” day. xx
Note to bloggers: Comments are difficult to reply to here, they don’t “nest” beneath your comments the way I would have hoped.. so I will visit your blogs with fewer replies here. I also don’t have any way to know if you’ve replied to my comments on your sites.. it’s one of the drawbacks to being self-hosted. Anyway, I just want you to know that I so appreciate your kind words and comments and read every single one of them.. xx Barb
Linking up at Elizabeth & Co today!
I love this idea! Have a great week!
Love your “Farm Fresh Eggs” sign. You have tulips already? I still have snow here and there on my property.
Very Clever! I’ve not used wet erase markers before. I’d think these have many applications
What a great idea! I have to do this! So clever too, changing out the paper in the background to suit the occasion or the room. Just so clever! I passed your beautiful (!!) aneneme cupcakes on to a couple bakers and they were met with ooooh ahhhhh’s! (As well they should be!) Happy Spring dear Smidge! xxx
Ha! I had no idea that self-hosting would bring these changes… not that I would be tempted to do it, it would probably kill me
🙂
I am challenged in many aspects, but number one is probably the artistic side. I cannot draw to save my life. Playing with one of my nieces’ daughter in Brazil, it was almost embarrassing to admit that she, at 10 years old, has A LOT more skill than me to draw stuff. Maybe I am missing a few hundred genes 😉
Great that you include the HOW TO directions. I am trying to comment again. Last time on the eggs post I was denied ;-(
Wishing you a happy Easter season and more and more signs of true Spring.
What a great idea and leave it to you to think of it, Barb. You are so creative! I hate that self-hosting makes it so hard to keep up with people in both directions. Seems like you should have it all if you go to the trouble and expense to self host! Oh, well. You certainly have a beautiful site here…it just gets prettier and prettier. Hope you have a lovely day and a very Happy Easter!
Hmmm. I just posted a comment and it went away. Please forgive me if I comment twice, and feel free to delete one if that happens! Anyway, love your idea…so creative and fun, and definitely brightens up a room. Am sorry to hear that you can’t see others’ comments the way you could before. That seems so unfair as a price to pay for self-hosting. But as I’ve said before, your site is beautiful and gets more so all the time!
Please send some spring to England 😉
What a great idea Barbara, I’ve been toying with getting an app for my iPad; I have it on my phone and it’s free but the iPad costs, and I’m not sure how much I would use it. Art Studio (Lite) works a lot like Adobe Illustrator (and Photoshop) so I found it very easy to use and intuitive and it’s pretty darn cool. And you could print the art if you had a blue tooth printer!
What a simple project, yet I would never have thought of it! This is great! I can definitely think of many ways to utilize a beautiful message board. The new “look” you’re working to achieve really suits your blog and depth of creativity. I think my only concern has been that I can’t seem to get your posts in my reader, but I’m working with WP to see if that can be remedied. Great work, Barb. And a very happy Easter to you.
How fun! I could totally see “doodling” with one of those markers onto a picture frame of one of my sons playing baseball…maybe the date, score, how many hits they had that game (or how many my pitcher struck out). My wheels are turning with the possibilities here, Smidge. Thank you so much!
These are such beautiful ideas my friend, love them 😀
So perfect for spring!
Cheers

Barbara, very pretty and great idea … nice with spring online, because … not much around me. Happy Easter, my friend .. and good luck with the linking.
You have such beautiful writing Barbara! I try with things like this but the look rather like a 2 year old did them!
Congratulations on your cupcake features!
What a beautiful and spring-y post!
Spring and Easter sure does bring out the decorator in you, Barb, and to good effect. The idea itself is a clever one. Your embellishments, though, turn a grocery list into a celebration of the Season. Beautifully nice!
As always, love it! You make my days prettier!
Great ideas! I’d love to have both the Farm Fresh Eggs sign, plus the farm fresh eggs! Really pretty stuff – thanks.
What a wonderful idea…. However your doodling is much prettier than mine would be…. Diane
I have to get some of those wet stick markers for the girls — they would love this craft Barb. You are such a source of inspiration on so many fronts. Happy Easter to you and your family!
You need to visit my house – with your bag of tricks, of course!
What a clever idea! You have a talent for doodles!
Yes… me again- caught doing my catch up. I LOVE this idea. I’m thinking it would be great for signs in the store.
Thanks!!!
Ok, I’m just checking, Wendy, the bottom says “PORCELAINE APILCO FRANCE” on the bottom. I bought them at a garage sale when my neighbor moved.. she had such pretty stuff and was downsizing:) But likely somewhere in Calgary? I’ll check online. xx I see white ones at Williams Sonoma.. so they might have been from there one year?
I hope I get to your store one day.. that would be so cool!
Another great idea to brighten up the home !
