There is something so evocative about watching wild birds at play
in the hush of the wee morning hours, before everyone wakes and the tumult of the day begins.
A Clutch of Wings…
The Fall will always bring to mind my days as a school teacher, classroom resplendent in orange, red and yellow leaves.
These birds reminded me so much of my students all those years ago.. chattering, rushing about giggling, laughing and teasing
all at play with delight at finding friends old and new are in our classroom.
Every fall, In my heart, I will always be a Kindergarten teacher.

Don’t you love Collective nouns? Here are a few I’ve found that I adore:
a clique of photographers
a jam of tarts
a flight of yesterdays
or how about..
a naught of boys
a swing of girls
a sprinkle of shooting stars
a draft of artists
a bushel of bakers
a cadence of musicians
Can you think of a few?

Dear bloggers, thank you for your patience.. I’ve been working like crazy these past few weeks.. but the good news is I’ve helped two awesome clients find the perfect homes! As soon as things settle.. I will be round!! xx
That’s a lovely poem.
Beautifully written Barbara! And I love your choice of collective nouns. There are always seasons, words, music, movies and food, that keep our memories alive. I love all the good associations, the bad ones not so much (Like Steve Winwood’s song, Higher Love, I had to hear that once during a MRI, I hate that song now)

I imagine you to be the perfect kindergarten teacher! I loved my kindergarten days, it takes a special person to teach that grade! Love this post, it has washed a wave of calm over me this morning!
A delightful poem and an appropriate photo. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely poem!
Such a beautiful poem and of one of my favorite things… the birds… at the feeder, bird bath and in the yard … Diane
That is a delightful poem to wake up to, thank you 😀
Cheers

Wonderful poem!
I always think back to my teaching days, too, Barb. I can’t help it. I work in a university and enjoy those fall rhythms, but my heart will always be with the excitement of my first graders. Such delight.
Your poem is beautiful. I really love it. And let me add “murder of crows” to your list. I always thought that was a very odd collective noun. 🙂
Such a nice post, Barb, and beautiful poem. I’m glad to read that you and two of your clients were successful. May they be happy in their new homes.
Debra beat me to the “murder of crows.” How about a “gaggle of geese”?
Cannot wait for your return. Take care till then. 🙂
Love your collective nouns! I like the expression “gaggle of geese”, but have previously asked a class of students to make up their own… sadly I don’t remember any now, but it’s a lovely activity!
I could feel those tiny birds twitching and tweeting (oops- very modern birds! Isn’t it funny how words can attract new meaning?) in every breath of that poem, Barbara. Your love of life shines through. Is the photo taken near you? It’s beautiful too.
No hurry my love- I always appreciate you making time for me. 🙂
Beautiful words about your Fall. ‘Fall’ is not a word we use downunder – we only use the word, ‘Autumn’. Have the seasons changed so quickly? What a shame. It did seem your summer was rather short. xx
Especially fabulous and beautiful, my sweet. I love the poem, the photo, and of course your thoughts on it all. So marvelous. Cheers on your work successes too!
xoxo,
Kathryn
Lovely words and thoughts. And the picture is great – just perfect. Thanks.
Lovely poem Smidge! I think I must have always have known that you were a kindergarten teacher as I can tell with your sweet smile, beautiful poetry and of course your delicious baked goods. All the perfect traits for a perfect teacher.
Awww, thanks, Bobbie:D I did love teaching!
Such a gentle, sweet poem …
Thank you for the reminder of all those construction paper leaves that used to festoon my elementary school classrooms – you brought back memories of chalk, wooden desks, the excitement of a new school year … Yes, I was one of ‘those’ kids that couldn’t wait for school to start 🙂
And finally, how about a clatter of spoons?
I loved school as well, Mar.. guess that’s why I became a teacher! xx
Lovely post and beautiful worlds! Congratulations on the success with your clients!
