Will you just look at this beauty I picked up at Blue Hydrangea in Inglewood?
It is perfect for dressing up your fall entryway.
I’m thinking of going back for a few other little pieces.
The minute I saw this pumpkin I fell in love and I made sure we went home together!
Then I stacked branches of birch on either side of the door. I love birch, it has such a rustic appeal and can transition nicely to winter displays.
I stowed some chunky cuts of firewood in an old rustic metal basket.
{ I was also pleased to see some of our firewood bark had peeled.. I’ll be making a candle craft with it for you soon. }
These vivid yellow branches were picked up from the ravine yesterday.
My flowers have begun wearing their autumn shades of faded jewel tones and earthy browns… except for this hydrangea.. she still thinks it’s spring!
I think my entryway is almost done..
but I feel like something’s still missing..
Curly willow and more yellow-leaved branches do the trick..
maybe a few real jack o’ lanterns, but I’ll be adding those closer to Hallowe’en.
♥
By the time you read this Smidge will be in Las Vegas.. dear lord, what’s a girl like Smidge doing in Vegas? With 5 of her best mates?
Without any fancy smancy glitter dresses?
Well, you’ll have to come back here to find out I guess..
♥
Until then.. I’ll leave you with the most incredible photos I was blessed to have taken just two nights ago. My daughter, Katie, received a text (thank heavens for cellular phones) that said she needed to go outside immediately.. in order to see this..
Of course we woke up the entire family.. this was a display unlike anything we’ve yet to experience..
I think it is a portent of good things to come…
{ The light on the left is an airplane.. just imagine flying through this!! }
Have you ever seen the Northern Lights?
Beautiful entryway! Love the attention to the details. The northern lights are spectacular, we get to see them every once in a while.
No I have never seen northern lights. Though last night I was taking shots of lightening. Those lights in your sky must have been something to see. And now you have reminded me that it is time to bring up the firewood and stack it against the wall in the verandah, I like to keep some up here for those really cold mornings when you cannot run too far for a morning piece of wood to stoke up the fire. Is winter really coming? I love your little pumpkin. What excellent craft work.. c
Love your style Smidge!! xx
That door has “come in! come in!” all over it, and the pumpkin is simply adorable. So much less messy than the other kind.
Happy Halloween! (no, I haven’t,sadly 🙁 )
Your entryway looks so beautiful and inviting. And that night sky! Amazing. 🙂
Have fun in Vegas! Looks like the party has already begun with those spectacular views of the Northern Lights. Love your front porch decorations and the cute wellies too.
I LOVE your front door, gorgeous! And your little fall décor is wonderful, I can certainly see why you fell in love with the pumpkin. I’m bringing back a few more birch ft the cottage, the flower shops want a king’s ransom for one ($6 each!) and I can get them for free on our land. The tricky part is finding the right size without having to cut an entire tree down.
I have never seen the Aurora Borealis before, maybe we’ll get lucky at the cottage this weekend.
Have fun in Vegas, I’ve been twice and that’s enough for a lifetime for me! If you have time, rent a car for the day and check out Red Rock Conservation, it is gorgeous! We rented a mini Jag for the day and it was lovely! But I’m told you can rent a clunker for a song!
What is that pumpkin made of? It is so gorgeous, I too would make sure it came home with me.
Never seen the Northern lights, what a display, thanks for sharing your spectacular photos.
Have a great time in Vegas.
Such creative ideas. I’m lucky enough to get a wreath on my door!
Those pictures of the Northern Lights are fabulous! I’ve never seen them… too far south here.
The front door display for autumn looks great!
Your decorations are beautiful, I love the pumpkin especially! ‘
Cheers

I’ve never seen the Northern Lights. Such a long, long, long way to go. I love the images of the sky – they almost look like a Van Gogh background. I do wonder what you are doing in Las Vegas. I love the entry to your home. That’s a beautiful front door and I love the colour. We don’t dress up our houses for Fall here – we don’t actually have a ‘Fall’. Our trees are mostly evergreens so we don’t have that experience of leaves changing colour and trees becoming denuded of their leaves. It would be amazing to experience your Fall xx
Whooaa those photos of the sky are amazing!! Your entry way is GORGOUS! I would just sit out there and enjoy coffee every morning!!
What a welcoming entrance way to a home…. and the Northern Lights photos are beautiful but I imagine seeing them in person is even better…. Diane
Fantastic pictures of the Northern lights. Really wonderful.
I really like your decorating style! And your northern light photos… They are amazing!
Lovely photos and an excellent fall arrangement on your door step.
God bless.
Barbara, your entrance just shouts – WELCOME! Beautiful.
No, I have never seen Northern Lights .. even if I live in the country with loads of it. Just like you. Well captured, Barbara.
I’m sure there has been some extreme lights in Las Vegas too.
Looking forward to the an action filled report.
Love how beautifully you’ve dressed up your entrance for fall! The pumpkins and gourds I’ve set out seem so meagre now
I have been so busy lately that I haven’t decorated my house (both inside and outside) for fall. You TOTALLY made me inspired after reading your post. After all this is my favorite season and I must enjoy to the fullest! Love love loooove your entryway! And my gosh I have never seen Northern Lights! Soo magical… Hope you’re enjoying Vegas!
Great pictures of the Northern Lights. I’ve only seen them a couple of times, and both times a rather poor showing (due to my location – I was way too far south). Fall decorating is such fun, isn’t it? Almost as good as all the fall food we’re eating! Hope you have a good time in Las Vegas. I’m not much of a gambler, but that place is such a spectacle it’s a fun trip.
Thanks for sharing those amazing northern lights photos. I’m sorry I missed them the other night. I’ve seen them, and it’s magical watching them, don’t you think? Viva Las Vegas!
You certainly do have a talent for decorating, Barb. It’s wonderful to see how you welcome each season. Your entryway is beautiful and I bet it will be quite the welcome sight when you return from Vegas. I hope you all have a wonderful trip. 🙂
Oh, what a gorgeous entryway! And how lucky are you to have seen the Northern Lights!!
Just remember, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas! 🙂 Fun!!
Your entry is gorgeous, Smidge! So inviting. And those Northern Lights are just incredible. I’ve never seen them, and I would be enthralled. ox
I’ve never seen the Northern Lights and I’m really hoping I’ll get to see it one day!
Beautiful doorway you have there! Wish I had half of your artistic talent in decorating.
hope you are enjoying yourself with yr mates in Vegas! x
You have an open invitation Smidge to come, stay as long as you like. We’ll do some cooking together and maybe while I’m cleaning up, you could take that magic wand of yours and wave it over our front porch. During this between season time it’s begging for some TLC and a Smidge of magic! Beautiful! And oh that Borrealis! Oh! xo
What a great entryway….I love the straw pumpkin! My entryway has logs, but alas, they are just logs. I’m off to go and try rearranging them!
Your entryway looks beautiful! i especially like the pumpkin. Thanks for sharing!
Wow I wanna see those as well, never seen an Aurora Borealis in my life
I was thinking just how inviting the entrance to your home is, and then I got to the photos of the Northern Lights… !!! They are one of the things on my bucket list to see in person. Incredible !
Your front door looks like it came out of a Pottery Barn catalog! Very pretty, Smidge 🙂 I was about to start dressing up my own home, but apparently I waited too long to start my fall decorating. Not even Halloween has passed and all the stores are full of Christmas decorations. Eeep! lol
