I was all set to make this amazing Ricardo chicken dish.. it couldn’t have been easier.Just pick up the chicken, everything else was in my pantry and fridge.Somewhere along the way I just got side tracked.. work, blogging, a walk with Bella and my mom, a visit with my dad, resume writing and grocery shopping… you know how it can be.
By the time I got home it was dark, arrghh!
I dare say that nothing is feared more in the photography and blogging world of the Northern Hemisphere than the change of seasons and the dreaded shorter days of: natural light.
♥
All of this after mentioning earlier in the day:
“It can only get better from here!”
and the equally cursed
“I mean, what else could go wrong?”
At this point my ever superstitious mom shushed me.. “You mustn’t tempt fate,” she admonished.
and then this happened..
Note to Self: Do NOT text or even hold onto your phone whilst walking through a gravelled parking lot.. remember what happened the last time.. and the time before that??!!
♥
So sorry to say, Ricardo and his chicken would both have to wait!
In the meantime, I thought it a highly appropriate time to text my lovely friend Jennifer in order to discover her secret recipe for what is, in my humble opinion, the newest and best drink.. ever! She is the best ever too!
Ok, we did have quite a few of these together, so maybe I just remember them as being awesome…
no.. they really were awesome and she is really awesome!
Sadly, my other friend hadn’t heard of them and even the clerk in the liquor store hadn’t made one, so I decided in the best interest of public safety er.. awareness, I should let you all know how to make a
Moscow Mule
Just in case you have a day like mine. You know, those ones where you get caught up in lovely visit and forget about time?
A few pointers:
- Please disregard the tiny bottles of Grey Goose in the photo, you are fully advised to pick up the full 750 bottle.. best value and all that, but if you’re a lightweight like me, these’ll do fine.
2. The copper mugs are an absolute necessity, (Pottery Barn carried a set of two, Pier One carries them so does Chapter/Indigo). Don’t even think about making these in a glass. The metal gets all cold and frosty on your mouth and it feels like you are Hermione drinking Butter Beer.
3. WARNING: I do NOT recommend these if you have children under the age of 5, or if you have to work tomorrow. Nor shoud you ever ever drink these and ride your bike or even text in a parking lot whilst attempting to walk.
4. Do NOT operate any sort of machinery, such as a stove or even your oven. It maybe best to teach your friend how to make these and lay down with a book or Netflix or.. your mug.
5. On the other hand: This IS a good time to practice Low Light photography!
you’re welcome
♥
- copper mug
- ice
- 2 oz vodka
- ginger beer, choose the best quality, it makes a difference
- 1/2 - 1 lime, juice
- mint sprig
- Fill your mug with ice. It took a whole tray to fill mine, so have plenty of ice on hand.
- Pour in 2 oz vodka. Fill with ginger beer.
- Squeeze in 1/2 lime or whole lime if they are small.
- Top with a sprig of mint.
Love,
Smidge
Very nice and you’ve got some excellent ginger beer!
In case you haven’t come across them, a Whisky Mac is a wonderful and warming winter drink. It’s 1 part Scottish whisky to 3 or 4 parts ginger wine (Stones or Crabbies), no ice. I’ve tried it with bourbon, but it doesn’t taste right.
Sorry about your phone 🙁
Ohhh.. now you have piqued my curiosity! With colder weather imminent and snow forecast for Monday, I will totally have to try these! I am sure to end up with a whole bar filled with tiny bottles of very nice whisky and vodka if I keep experimenting like this:)
Barb, I’m not online much at the moment, but it’s hard to resist a post titled “Moscow Mules Save the Day!” Hahahaha! Couldn’t agree more, these are divine! I make mine with Hollows ginger beer, but if I can’t get that, I sub Rochester Ginger syrup and soda water. Works a treat! I’m sorry to hear about your phone, hope it’s fixed soon! xxx
There was another entirely worse “stress” to the day, but I wanted to keep this post light-hearted:) I love your change out and it might be a better “less intoxicating” solution at the end of a long day:D btw.. I found “Priscilla” after uncovering piles of filing.. I just may have to resurrect her!! Love to you!! xx
My sweet, we do all have those days. Only the wise and artful like you are smart enough to brighten and amend them with the graceful kick of a Mule from Moscow. Mmmmm! If you haven’t already gotten to know its distant cousin, I think you’d also appreciate and enjoy the Dark ‘n’ Stormy (national drink of Bermuda)—rum and ginger beer, mostly, and refreshing in a way similar to the MM, to my taste. In any case, I loved your paean to the MM, your lyrical solution to a lousy day, and your gorgeous low-light photography!
xoxoxo,
Kath
Oh my and that mule can kick, Kathryn;) I will have to look for that Dark ‘n Stormy recipe and purchase a tiny bottle of rum.. or maybe a large one will do? So nice of you to stop in, if it were in person I would make you a Mule! xxxx
What a fun read Smidge, although not about the phone!
Have a beautiful weekend.
🙂 Mandy xo
Isn’t it true.. I swear those phones are designed with the most fragile screen glass they can find! You have a lovely weekend too Mandy! xoxoxo

Hahaha.. you’ve got the perfect accent going on there!!
I’ve seen lots of people ordering these lately and I had no idea what they were. I just wanted the copper cup! I’m not usually a mix drink drinker, but these sound very good. And perfect for one of those kind of days.
I’m not usually a mix drinker either, but I did like these:)
I gave my married daughter and husband a pair of the copper mule mugs a couple of christmasses ago, and when I was just there last week visiting, i took a photo of on of them, because there are so many varieties. Hers are hammered, but not super hammered, and the handles are the same as yours, so i think I may have found a way to get more that actually match. They always serve moscow mules to company! so thanks!
I plan to get a few more myself.. they’re so pretty:D
Oh, I’m so glad that worked out for you! I’m going to pick up at least one more, but having 4 would be ideal for me:)
Oh no, I’m sorry for your phone. Love the copper cups! Delicious recipe! So excited to try it 🙂
